Australian cricket fans are enjoying a plateful of cricketing action this summer. On one hand, they have a scintillating Ashes victory, while on the other it’s the non-stop entertaining Big Bash League. Both the Men’s and the Women’s tournaments are being held simultaneously with the winners to be crowned on February 4.

The only Indians to feature in the WBBL this season are Veda Krishnamurthy for the Hobart Hurricanes and Harmanpreet Kaur for the Sydney Thunders franchise. During match 28 between Hobart and Brisbane Heat, Krishnamurthy made headlines for her celebrations after she took the wicket of Heat top-order batswoman Deandra Dottin A jubilant 25-year-old Vedamurthy celebrated like Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi with both arms stretched in air and shoulders lifted brewing with confidence.

She later took Twitter to post a picture of the same and tagged Shahid Afridi. She captioned the image saying, “Did I just do a @SAfridiOfficial how gud is that?!!! #feelswhenutakeawicket @hobarthurricanes

The Pakistani swashbuckling batsman also acknowledged the Indian’s tweet and lauded her for her efforts. Afridi wrote, Good try, work harder and more importantly keep taking wickets you’ll get there.”

Krishnamurthy on a roll

Just one day later, in the return fixture, Krishnamurthy took a stunning catch to dismiss Brisbane Heat’s Beth Mooney. She won many hearts with her brilliant fielding effort on Monday (January 8). Fielding at the deep square leg, Veda ran towards her right to complete a stunning low-handed catch. After completing the catch, Krishnamurthy was hugged by her team-mates, who were jubilant with her effort.

Match Details

After being invited to bat first, skipper Kirby Short led from the front by scoring 79 runs to take her team to a respectable 168-run total.

In reply, they bowled out the Hurricanes for 126 in 18.5 overs. After taking that stunning catch, Krishnamurthy played a handy knock as well as she contributed 33 runs off 22 balls.
