The Windies are currently touring Pakistan for a three-match T20 International series at the iconic Karachi National Stadium. They entered the tournament with a depleted squad and were expected to struggle against the hosts, the number one ranked team in T20 Internationals. They were beaten black and blue in the opening game as Pakistan dictated terms to them throughout.
After the humiliating defeat, Jason Mohammed’s men need to dish out a stupendous comeback in order to stay alive in the series. However, they have been severely jolted as left-arm spinner Verasammy Permaul has been ruled out of the remainder of the series owing to an ankle injury. He was playing his debut T20 match and the game turned out to be equivalent to a nightmare.
The nightmarish debut for Permaul
Hussain Talat, the Pakistani debutant, smacked the ball past the bowler down the ground for a boundary. However, on his delivery stride, Permaul seemed to have twisted his left ankle and the physiotherapist had to take charge immediately. Thereafter, he was carried off on a stretcher and Marlon Samuels bowled the remaining three deliveries in the over.
As per reports in Geo TV, he has been taken to the hospital for treatment. An official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) updated on the tweaker’s injury. “The results show no fracture in his ankle but confirm muscle rupture which requires at least a week to recover,” the official mentioned. Permaul was one of their prime spinners along with Samuel Badree in the squad.
Badree didn’t have an auspicious outing in the opening games having gone for runs and going wicket-less as well. However, being an experienced campaigner and the lone specialist spinner in the team, the onus will be on the leg-break bowler to deliver. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see the replacement of Permaul for the second game at the same venue.
