The Ranji Trophy Champions Vidarbha defended the coveted Irani Trophy against the Rest of India (ROI) on Saturday in Nagpur. Chasing a total of 280, the hosts batted superbly on the fifth and final day and reached 269/5 before both the captains decided to call it a truce and shook the hands.
During the presentation ceremony, the Vidarbha skipper was all praise of his team and then announced that the team has decided to donate all the prize money to the martyred jawans in the recent Pulwama attack.
“We have decided to donate the prize money to the families of the martyrs at Pulwama. A small gesture from our side,” Faiz Fazal said at the presentation. The Irani Trophy Champions receive whopping prize money of Rs 10 Lakhs from the BCCI. This gesture from the Champion side has won the hearts of the cricket fans as well and like many, even they have done their bit for the soldiers who lost their lives in an unfortunate incident and their families.
Clinical show again
Vidarbha has once again put up a brilliant show after being put under the pressure. They were struggling at one stage in the first innings and the lower-order put up an excellent fight again to bail them out of the trouble. Faiz Fazal, in the post-match presentation ceremony, hailed the team’s resolve and also thanked the support-staff for their support.
“Thanks to the almighty. The entire team did well in the entire season. That shows we have some characters in our team. The way the boys performed according to the occasion was wonderful despite the absence of Jaffer and Umesh Yadav. I am very happy for the team. Really happy to get a few centuries during the season. The support staff has been great. A thanks won’t be enough,” he further said.
