Chennai played host to three games on Monday in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and all the games turned out to be quite interesting. With the tournament inching closer to the knockout phases, these three Group C games were pretty important in deciding the fates of a few sides.
Rajasthan registered their first win of the campaign against Assam after a horrendous run. They had lost all of their first five games, which pretty much put them out of the picture. This win seems like a mere consolation, but it must’ve felt good for them to have broken the deadlock.
Manender Narender Singh scored a century for Rajasthan, who ended up scoring 217 runs batting first. Youngster Mahipal Lomror notched a quickfire fifty as well. Assam could only score 161 runs and got bowled out in 38.4 overs.
Table toppers Jharkhand edge out Bengal in a thriller
In a rain-marred encounter, Jharkhand and Bengal played one of the games of this season. Abhimanyu Easwaran notched a sensational 149 runs off 162 balls with Manoj Tiwary registering a fine half-century. Varun Aaron returned with three wickets as Bengal scored 267 runs in their 50 overs.
Anand Singh’s hundred and Ishan Kishan’s fifty saw Jharkhand get a brilliant start. The openers added 119 runs for the first wicket. Although they lost their way in the middle, Anukul Roy’s well-composed 34 got them very close to the total. Jharkhand scored 264 runs losing 9 wickets in 49 overs and due to rain’s interruption, Ishan Kishan’s side was declared winners by 2 runs.
Services registered a pretty comfortable win against Jammu & Kashmir and took the second spot in the table. Services put up a dauntless 323-run target for their opponents courtesy of a brilliant century coming from Nakul Sharma. Skipper Parvez Rasool picked up a five-fer, but that went in vain.
Jammu & Kashmir could only register 220 runs and got bowled out in 42.2 overs. Paras Sharma fought hard with his 93, but the target was way out of their reach. Services eventually won the game by 102 runs.
