Just three games were played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Thursday and all three of them turned out to be pretty one-sided encounters. Chennai hosted all these Elite Group C encounters and after all the round 7 fixtures, underdogs Jharkhand emerged as the table-toppers in a group that boasts of teams like Tamil Nadu, Bengal and Gujarat.

Jharkhand have worked on building a well-rounded team in the last couple of years and it is coming together now. In the game against Jammu & Kashmir, their top order faltered big time batting first, but Anukul Roy’s unbeaten 72-ball 96 saw them clinch a reasonable total of 221 in their 50 overs.

In reply, Shahbaz Nadeem once again produced a breathtaking spell to earn his side a big win. He registered figures of 5/17 in 10 overs and came up trumps against every batsman he faced. Jammu & Kashmir were bowled out for 148 runs, handing their opponents a 73-run win.

Tamil Nadu register a much-needed win

After a brilliant start to their campaign, Tamil Nadu slightly lost their way. But their win against Assam certainly puts them back on track. Skipper Vijay Shankar blasted a majestic century, notching 129 runs off just 99 balls with support from Baba Indrajith and Abhinav Mukund. They posted 334 runs in their 50 overs.

In reply, a collective show of brilliant bowling from their unit saw Assam getting bowled out for 204 runs in 44.1 overs. Yo Mahesh, Baba Aparajith, Varun Chakravarthi and R. Sai Kishore picked up a brace each for Tamil Nadu.

Rajasthan’s catastrophic run in the tournament continued as Haryana registered a huge win over them. Banking on Pramod Chandila’s 88 off 55 balls, Haryana managed to go past the 300-run mark out of the blue. They were bowled for 304 runs and TM-ul-Haq returned with figures of 3/62.

Once again, Rajasthan’s batting order faltered and none of their top 3 players registered double digits. Harshal Patel and Chaitanya Bishnoi chipped in with great spells for Haryana to see off the struggling side by a whopping 147-run margin.
