Karnataka’s incumbent Ranji Trophy skipper Ranganath Vinay Kumar is eyeing a comeback to the Indian cricket team following some impressive performances in recent times in the Ranji Trophy. The 32-year old has also been in the news recently due to the fact that he recently joined the elite club of players that crossed over to the 400-wickets mark.

Vinay Kumar was a part of the Indian team as a fringe player who impressed with the ball each time he was handed the responsibility of playing cricket for his country. He was most impressive in overseas tours when he was able to get the lateral movement especially in conditions such as Australia.

Whilst speaking about the same, the 32-year old said that one of the most important agendas on his timeline was that he was interested in making it back into the Indian team. “I surely want to get 500-600 wickets, but that is not easy. My main aim is to play for India. I want to do everything possible for that. By performing, I can definitely knock on the doors of the Indian team again.”

While the goals are set, Vinay is aware of the challenges that come with it. “I will get my chances. I’m not saying I will get it tomorrow or in the coming series. You never know, anything can happen. But the good thing in Indian cricket is that there is a healthy competition. Whenever I get my chance I will perform. That is my biggest goal,” he said.

Vinay also believes that he is a much more matured bowler in recent times. “I am a more mature bowler now. I can read the batsman quickly, his weakness and then play on his weakness, which is what is helping me get wickets faster.”

“Sometimes even I feel that (lack of pace) but I’ve become quicker with time. I’m a kind of a bowler who relies on swing,” he said.

Vinay Kumar also went on to add that he would lose his strength when he tries bowling faster than what he is used to. “I will lose my strength if I try to bowl too fast and I don’t want to sacrifice my strengths. I will work on my strengths and try to become a better bowler,” he said.
