Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was a lost face in the world of cricket a couple of years ago. He only made sporadic appearances on some reality shows or news bulletins. Soon, the fans started watching him in the role of a cricket expert on the talk shows and the cricket analysis shows. Now, in the last couple of months, he was again nowhere to be seen on the televsion. While many might feel that he went into his personal world again, the truth remains to be more exciting.

Vinod Kambli was appointed as the coach of the U16 Zonal Cricket Academy of the East Zone by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Hence, he has been spending time with the young colts in Ranchi and grooming them for the bigger stage. Recently, he thanked the BCCI for having given him an opportunity of playing the role of the coach.

“I thank the BCCI for reposing the faith in me and giving me this opportunity. The guys were outstanding. I had a good interaction with them and they were keen on listening to whatever I said. I really enjoyed this stint. This is just a start for me. Now, let’s see what the BCCI decides,” Kambli told Sportstar  from Ranchi.

Tendulkar playing a big role

So what prompted Vinod Kambli to take up the coaching assignment? Answering the same question, the former cricketer recalled that it was his good friend Sachin Tendulkar who urged him to take up the sporting role again. Kambli recalled how Sachin’s words worked as a serious motivation for him.

“I would thank Sachin for bringing me to this format. I was mostly on television, talking about cricket. He met me one day and asked, ‘What are you doing here? Enter where you belong. Talk to youngsters about the game’,” Kambli recalled.

Elated for Arjun Tendulkar

Recently, Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, made it to the India U19 side for the four-day fixtures against Sri Lanka. Commenting on the same, Vinod Kambli expressed his excitement over the news. He remarked that Arjun has been working very hard and deserves evey bit of appreciation and reward that comes his way.

“I am really happy for Arjun. He has really worked hard. I have been reading about him and have also spoken to his coaches and they have all told me that he is a hard working guy. From the core of my heart, I would like to congratulate the Tendulkar family. I saw Arjun as a baby and now he is selected for India U-19 squad. His father, Sachin, would always say that one should follow the dreams and I am happy to see Arjun following his dreams. It is a great feeling,” the former cricketer conceded.
