Vinod Kambli recalls playing Ranji Trophy semi-final after the cremation of his mother on the same day

Vinod Kambli, the former Indian batsman was a fine player but didn’t get enough chances to prove his worth. However, he still managed to leave his mark as a batsman in his short career in international cricket. Usually, cricketer goes through a rough patch of form or bad days. The same happened with Vinod Kambli as he revealed the most difficult game of his career and it is not an international match but a Ranji Trophy game.

Cricket is a gentlemen’s game and in India, it is followed quite religiously by the fans. Also, young cricketers give their best in the domestic tournaments in their quest to earn a call up from the top flight. And, in order to do so, cricketers have to work hard with a strong focus on their aim. It is said in cricket that nobody knows which game can turn the fate of any player. So, they should give their best in each and every game.

Vinod Kambli recalls the toughest match of his life

Vinod Kambli, who is the childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar, was quite a passionate cricketer. For him cricket is like a religion. But there was a time when it took a lot of courage for him to take the field in a Ranji Trophy game after the cremation of his mother. On that day, his father suggested him to play in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu that was scheduled to be played in Mumbai.

As per him, it was the most difficult game of his life emotionally as well as mentally. Kambli took to Twitter to express himself over the same and wrote, “After the cremation of my mother in the morning, my father insisted that I should go & play the Ranji semi-final match against TN starting in just a few hours in Mumbai. It was one of the most difficult matches for me mentally and emotionally.”

Virat Kohli, the current Indian skipper also had a similar type of story, who played a match-saving knock of 90-runs against Karnataka in 2006 before going for the cremation of his father. Even Sachin Tendulkar had travelled all the way from India to England to play for the country in the World Cup after losing his father during the mega event.
