Virat Kohli’s class and calibre as one of the world’s best batsmen in the world is an open secret and he has turned out to be a stalwart for the Indian cricket team across all the formats. The cricketer forayed into international cricket back in 2008 and has grown in stature ever since. The Delhi-born batsman has racked up runs at will and has been a tormenting factor for the opponents.
In an already illustrious cricketing career, which has spanned a tad over 10 years, Kohli has broken a number of records. In a recent development, it has been learned that the 29-year-old will receive the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award on Tuesday, September 25, as per reports in The Times of India (TOI) and the same was announced today by the sports ministry.
One more feather in Virat’s hat
He will be honoured by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Back in 2016 and 2017, he was nominated for the esteemed award, however, he missed out. Nevertheless, luck didn’t elude him the third time around. He is currently the top-ranked batsman in Test and ODI cricket. Recently, India played a five-match Test series against England and Virat ended with 593 in five matches
He piled up the runs at an average of 59.3 along with a couple of centuries. The right-handed batsman has thus far played 71 Tests, 211 ODIs and 62 T2OIs in which he has notched 6147, 9779 and 2102 runs respectively. He is currently second in the list of most centuries by a batsman (35) in ODIs after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and is approaching the milestone of 10,000 runs in the format.
Virat is currently on a break as he has been rested for India’s campaign in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is only 29 years old and is speculated to break many more records in the times to come.
