On August 5, 2019, the abolition of Article 370, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, took place. The entire nation rejoiced as the Narendra Modi-led Indian government put forth the historic decision at the Rajya Sabha. However, on the very next day, the nation was struck by a massive blow as the legendary Sushma Swaraj passed away at the age of 67.

Swaraj, also India’s former foreign affairs minister, suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed her last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The whole of India is in shock after the death of one of the most dynamic Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. Her last tweet was a message of congratulations for the Honourable Prime Minister following the epic J&K decision.

After the death of India’s Iron Lady, Modi said that it’s a personal loss and she would be remembered for her deeds in her illustrious journey in Indian politics. Even the Indian cricketing fraternity poured in condolences for the enigmatic figure. The likes of Virender Sehwag, Ravi Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, a politician himself, and many others, were heartbroken by the incident.

In the meantime, Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, also took time out and dropped a tweet, expressing his grief and sorrow for the unfortunate occurring. The 30-year-old took to Twitter and wrote, “Deeply saddened by the news of Sushma Ji’s demise, may her soul rest in peace,”

Kohli recently played in the three-match T20I series versus the Windies and captained the Men in Blue to a resounding 3-0 whitewash. After a couple of decent shows at Lauderhill, Florida, India carried forward their form at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, winning the match by seven wickets. Kohli couldn’t deliver in the first two games but came into his own in the dead rubber.

The visiting team lost the openers- KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan- after which Virat came to the party. The right-hander notched 59 runs and almost took the Indian team over the finishing line. Oshane Thomas got rid of him, but by then he had guided his side to safer shores. Rishabh Pant also lent him appropriate support with an unbeaten 65 off 42 balls with four fours and as many sixes.
