Indian skipper Virat Kohli is a key player across formats for the Men in Blue and believes in carrying his ODI form into T20Is as well. He has been prolific in the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand and won the Man of the Series award as well. He smashed two centuries in the three-match series and was also the highest run-getter. However, come the T20Is few records are awaiting the superstar of Indian cricket.

Kohli is just 36 runs away from reaching 7000 run mark in the overall T20 cricket. If he reaches the landmark in the upcoming series which he most probably will, he will become the eighth cricketer in the world to do so. Currently, the universal boss Chris Gayle holds the record for the most runs (10571) in the format as he plays in all the leagues across the world. But no one has matched the average of Virat Kohli (40.72) which is superior given his consistency in the shortest format of the game.

As far as T20 Internationals are concerned, the 28-year-old is just a single boundary from becoming only the third player to hit 200 fours in the format. Tillakaratne Dilshan (223) and Mohammad Shahzad (200) have already done it before. Virat is also just 148 runs adrift of 2000 run mark and if he continues in the rich vein of form like he was in the ODIs, he will most likely become only the second player in the history of T20Is to do so.

Kohli’s stellar season in 2016

Virat Kohli is a known as run-machine and the term is relevant for him across all the formats. His consistency in the Test and ODI format is amazing but what strikes everyone about his game is his form continues to be superb in T20s as well. The unpredictability of the format keeps every batsman on their toes and consistently big scores aren’t demanding unlike the other two formats of cricket. But the Superman from India has managed to do it which boasts his stature as an international cricketer.

Virat Kohli has so far featured in 223 matches in T20s and has amassed 6964 runs at an average of 40.72 which has left many of his fans awestruck. He has scored 51 half-centuries and 4 centuries so far. All of his centuries have come in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2016 when he had hit a purple patch. He was in such a blazing touch that he used to score runs for fun during the ninth edition of the league. He also missed from becoming the first player to score 1000 runs in a single season by a whisker.

Now it remains to be seen if the Indian captain scores the required runs and the boundaries to reach his milestones as records continue to galore through his already illustrious career.
