Virat Kohli reveals MS Dhoni's batting position ahead of the World Cup
Dhoni won the Man of the Series award for his three successive half-centuries against Australia.
The ODI series between India and Australia was special for MS Dhoni. He came to Australia under huge pressure and after a dismal 2018, the veteran had to prove his mettle ahead of the World Cup. After the three matches, Dhoni won the Man of the Series award for the first time since 2011 and ended as the second highest run-getter. With all the debate around his batting position, the Indian finisher conceded he is ready to bat anywhere for the team.
However, despite playing a match-winning knock of 87 runs in Melbourne batting at four, the skipper Virat Kohli has cleared that he would love to have the experience of Dhoni at number five going into the World Cup. He clarified the same in the press conference after the series victory and lauded the team for their performance.
India had zeroed in on Ambati Rayudu for the much-debated number four position but he struggled immensely in the first two matches. Eventually, he was dropped for the series decider and Dhoni batted at four in this game. His immediate success has complicated matter even more now. Having said that, it seems that Kohli is clear in the mind and this change was only for this game it seems.
Dhoni’s best series in recent times
MS Dhoni ended the series with 193 runs to his name and was dismissed only once in three matches. This shows his importance to the team when many have called for him to be axed. As a captain, Kohli never doubted Dhoni’s place in the team and has time and again highlighted his importance to the team.
This performance must have definitely silenced the critics as he has recovered beautifully after starting slowly to starting the innings. With New Zealand series coming up, it will be interesting to see how he fares and that too after enduring one of the best series in the recent times.
