Former English cricketer Geoffrey Boycott showered praise on the Indian Test skipper at the end of day 3 of Mumbai Test. Trailing 2-0 down in the series, England came strong in the Mumbai Test. They piled up 400 in their first innings. However, India’s fightback led by skipper Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay saw the hosts take a narrow 51 run lead with 3 wickets in hand. Kohli remained unbeaten on 147 at the end of the day’s play.

No wonder why Geoffrey Boycott was mighty pleased with the effort by Virat Kohli. He said that the English bowlers bowled well. But it was Kohli’s elegance that saw the hosts take an upper hand. “Rashid bowled much better today and so did Moeen Ali. As much as the pitch turned, it’s slow and if you have a class act like Virat Kohli. He’s so smooth, like milk chocolate. Never mind all the shots, the feet get you in such lovely position and his footwork gets him into position so early, quickly and perfectly balanced and from there it is quite easy to play,” quoted Geoffrey Boycott.

He added further that watching Virat Kohli bat can be a delight for any Test cricket lover. He looked awestruck with the footwork and technique of Virat Kohli. “And it’s looks so easy. It is all done because of the smoothness, the ease of the footwork and seeing the length so quickly. Kohli is a class player. For people who like Test cricket, you’ve got to watch him. It’s a pleasure to watch him,” he added.

Heaping some more praise on the Indian Test skipper, Geoffrey Boycott said that Kohli’s footwork has been as good as that of West Indies legend Brian Lara. Commenting on the way England have bowled and played thus far, the former cricketer cited that the performance has been decent. It has just been the case of the hosts being too good. He rightly cited that England have created their chances and moments but India have come back stronger each time.

“We’ve had chances but when push came to shove, we’ve not been good enough. Every time England sneaked the door open, India were too good – that’s been the story of the day,” he conceded.
