Former Indian skipper and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has been compared all over the cricketing world with the current Indian run-machine and Test captain Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli has been in prolific run flow over the last one year and in the ongoing IPL, he led his side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the finals. With over 900 runs in this edition of the tournament, he is probably at the top form being the first player to score 4 centuries in one season.
Kohli had said earlier that it is “unfair” to compare him with Sachin Tendulkar. “It is embarrassing, to be honest. It is not fair on him (Tendulkar). He can’t be compared to anyone. You are talking about a batsman of a different caliber. I have strengthened my game whereas he was born to achieve all that he has. I have been playing well for two years while he served the nation with grace for 24 years. He is two levels above anyone else in this generation of batsmen. I am individually inspired by him though I would like to create my own path,” Kohli had said on comparisons with Tendulkar.
The 27-year old Virat is well on the way to break several other records of Sachin if he can stay fit and continue his good run. When asked about Kohli, the Master Blaster said that he is “strong mentally”. “Virat (Kohli) presents the straight bat and scores with good cricketing shots. He is a special talent and he works hard on his game. His discipline and commitment has to be emulated. He visualises different formats without ever compromising on his technique. In addition, he is very strong mentally and thrives in pressure situations,” Tendulkar told Dubai’s Gulf News.
Virat has scored 2994 runs in Test cricket, 7212 runs in ODIs, and 1641 runs in T20 internationals with a total of 36 international centuries.
