Virat Kohli wants Anil Kumble to be sacked as he meets up with CAC

Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble have had their differences for quite a while now. There are problems with the current Indian head coach and the team is looking for the new one. They had sent out an advertisement and the criteria for taking the hot seat and the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has also been formed to select the next Indian coach.

There are several applicants and a committee consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly will interview them and decide who the best choice for taking Indian cricket forward is. It will be interesting as the likes of Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody have applied for the job.

Kumble has also reapplied and gets a direct entry to the interviews. The CAC will conduct the interviews and then will forward their decisions. There have been strong rumours that the coach and the captain have a bad relationship. And the speculations have only been getting stronger by the day.

Virat’s “strong reservations”

According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Virat met CAC members and also the CEO of BCCI Rahul Johri and General Manager of BCCI Amitabh Choudhary. He has cleared his view out to the members in the meeting that lasted about an hour or so.

According to a source close to the newspaper, the dispute between Kumble and Kohli is not the one to be repaired. There has to be a change according to the skipper. “Kohli is very clear about where he stands vis-a-vis Kumble. It seems the relationship is beyond the repair stage, at least from Kohli’s side. However, the CAC will now meet Kumble and see if a patch-up is possible,” the source was quoted.

Kumble has been one of the most successful coaches and it will be hard for BCCI to sack him. There is also a concern of Kohli falling out with the next coach as well. “Kumble’s track record as head coach is almost without a blemish. How does one remove him? On what grounds? To what extent should the captain have a say? Also, can we have a situation where Kohli, no matter how successful and brilliant he is, gets the complete charge? Big questions need to be settled,” the source said.

It will be interesting to see who gets the job as sacking Kumble might backfire and giving Kohli whatever he wants might also change things and BCCI might be seen surrendering in front of the captain. It is a tricky decision that the BCCI and CAC have to take.
