It was an ugly episode in the history of Indian cricket when Anil Kumble was made to resign from the position of the Head Coach. Apparently, the working style of Virat Kohli was quite different from that of the former leg-spinner and there were several differences as a result. In place of Kumble, Kohli was adamant about having Ravi Shastri in the set-up and the same was done.

However, things haven’t really panned out as per the expectations under this duo. While the team has registered several memorable wins in the bilateral series, they faltered when it mattered the most. India was a strong favourite to lift the World Cup 2019. Even though the team did well in the league stage, they lost the semi-final to New Zealand. Earlier when Shastri was the director of the team, they lost the World Cup 2015 semi-final as well.

With the end of this tournament, Shastri’s contract has also come to an end. The BCCI is currently scouting for new professionals for the job. Currently, Shastri and the other coaching staff’s contract has been extended for another 45 days. Thus, Ravi Shastri will continue for the West Indies tour, Virat Kohli said he wants the former all-rounder for the future as well.

Will be very happy if he continues

Virat Kohli said that he will speak to the CAC if they seek his advice or opinion. He said that the team shares a great camaraderie with ‘Ravi Bhai‘ and added that they have great mutual respect. Thus, he noted that they’d be very happy in he continues in the role and even mentioned that the team has done well under the 1983 World Cup winner. Furthermore, he informed that he hasn’t been contacted as yet.

“If the CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) wants my advice or opinion, I’ll speak to them. With Ravi Bhai, we share a great camaraderie and have mutual respect. We will be very happy if he continues. We have done well under him. But I haven’t been contacted,” Kohli said. As per the reports now, Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene, Robin Singh amongst a few others have applied for the job.
