The relationship between India and Pakistan has not been great for years now. Cross-border terrorism has spoiled the cinematic and cricketing ties too between both the nations. India and Pakistan face each other only in tournaments organized by the International Cricket Council, and no bilateral series between them looks probable unless the Indian government gives the nod, which is unlikely for now.

However, fans from either side of the Wagah border crave for more contests between the two arch-rivals and the cricketers from both the teams to enjoy a good camaraderie off the field. The last time India and Pakistan played together was in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy, which the men in blue lost.

Kohli’s fan from across the Wagah

Indian captain Virat Kohli is a much-loved figure in Pakistan, and this was evident once again when in a recent game of Pakistan Super League, a fan at the stadium was seen carrying a placard which said, “We want to see Virat Kohli in PSL”. This was captured by the cameramen during a match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators. Kohli is at the peak of his form since the start of 2016 and has already surpassed several of his idol Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Experts say that in a few years, Kohli can break all of the batting legend’s records if his form and fitness do not leave him.

The third edition of the PSL kicked off on February 22, while the opening ceremony took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The league has teams from six major cities – Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Multan. Last year, the final of the tournament was held in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium amidst high security and that game also marked the resurrection of cricket in the country. This year too, the final will be played in Pakistan, in the city of Karachi.
