He may have retired for over a year now but the dashing opener continues to rule the hearts of fans through Twitter. Yes, the boundaries may have stopped but Virender Sehwag continues to set Twitter on fire with the funniest and witty tweets. Twitter has reflected the other side of the Nawab of Najafgarh.

Wishing birthdays to cricketers in a quirky way in 140 characters has helped him create a buzz on the microblogging site. He has also constantly interacted with his fans on Twitter which has helped him exponentially increase his following. Recently, Sehwag made a revelation that he had made around INR 30 lakhs in the last six months through his tweets.

This is quite evident with the fact that he has promoted various brands on Twitter. With a following of more than 8 million, his activeness in the social media has paved way for the brands to pay him big for promotions on Twitter.

On the other hand, Sehwag hasn’t just blankly put out promotional tweets but has rather tweaked them in his own style to suit his followers and infused humour which has helped him compel a large audience. When asked about it, Viru said “These are all jokes we used to crack with friends and in the dressing room. Once I took to Twitter and shared those jokes, they became a huge hit. My following grew and some of the posts got thousands of retweets. With so many shares, money from sponsors followed.”

Twitterati which earlier used to enjoy the hits out of the stadium by the right-hander is now enjoying his tweets. And now that he’s earning through sponsored posts, we can safely say he’s making the best use of it, exactly similar to the way he made optimum use of the power play overs in his playing days.
