Virender Sehwag takes a subtle jibe at South Africa following their series defeat

Virat Kohli became the first captain to lead India to their maiden series win in South Africa. He has been in sublime form as he played a pivotal role to help India seal the 6 match series 4-1 with one game left. After a defeat in the longer format, the Indian team did a commendable job to turn the odds in their favour.

While the batting department stood their fort and put up a tenacious display, the contribution of the young spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav can’t go unheralded. The wrist spinners have been in fine form in the ongoing ODI series and came up with a good show in the sixth ODI too. Chahal picked up 2 while Kuldeep scalped one as India bowled out the hosts for just 204 in the 6th ODI today.

The three wickets helped the spinners take their tally to a staggering 33. Kuldeep finished the six-match series with 17 wickets while Chahal picked up 16 wickets. It is already the highest number of wickets taken by Indian spinners in a bilateral series, going past the tally of 27 Harbhajan Singh & Co. picked up during England tour of India in 2006.

Lauding their efforts in the rainbow nation, former India opener Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to congratulate the spin duo. Sehwag, who is known on social media for his witty posts came up with yet another intriguing one. This was rather a subtle wordplay as the 39-year-old took the abbreviations of Chahal and Kuldeep as ‘ChaKu’, which in Hindi interprets as a knife.

And as soon as the South African innings ended, Sehwag took to Twitter to post his trademark tweet. He hailed the spinners for stabbing South Africa brutally. The former India star also praised pacer Shardul Thakur who picked up 4 for 52.

His Tweet read, “Yeh #ChaKu humka dedo Thakur. 33 wickets for ChaKu , stabbed South Africa brutally. Absolutely brilliant. Oh, by the way Thakur ne bhi aaj 4 wickets liye. Well bowled. 5-1 would be wonderful #SAvIND”
