The ongoing phase has been a very fruitful one for the Indian team, as they are justifying their world No. 1 tag. Virat Kohli‘s men are ruthless, and they are outplaying every other team that has the courage to challenge their undisputed superiority. Though cricket is a game which is played as a team and won as a team, the leader’s individual performance hasn’t been what it usually is and former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is unhappy with one particular trait of Kohli.

Known for his fitness and agility, Kohli has the knack of taking cheeky singles. While it is important to keep the scoreboard running, Sehwag, who wasn’t actually a  fan of singles, feels one mustn’t give away his wicket for the sake of just 1 run. When saying this, the Nawab of Najafgarh also mentioned that this is not his theory but this was told to him by the ‘god’ himself, Sachin Tendulkar.

“Tendulkar emphasised time and again that you should not give away your wicket for a single. Your wicket is so precious and can’t just waste it in search of that single, that one run holds no value,” said the owner of 15 ODI tons, while speaking to India TV.

He was also unhappy with Kohli’s recently-found love for the third man region, as he said, “If you observe his batting techniques in the recently concluded series, Kohli played most of the balls towards third-man region, which he did not play so often previously. There must be a reason for the shot selection and only he will be able to tell about it. But, I think Kohli should have converted his innings of 92 in the second ODI at Eden Gardens into a century as he got dismissed while playing the ball towards third man.”

Sehwag wants supporters to have faith in Kohli

Even after bashing him for many things, Sehwag has full faith in the lad from Delhi, which shows that it is just the high level of expectations of people from Kohli, and he himself is responsible for it.

On being asked about his poor run, Sehwag retorted, “Every batsman goes through a rough patch and it is completely normal. In the last series against Sri Lanka, he scored quite a lot of runs and this is where the law of averages comes into play. And hopefully in the coming series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Kohli will score runs and convert them to centuries as well.”
