Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Peter Nevill has hit some hard straps after being left out of the national side. The current Australian team has very less time left before they host England for the all important Ashes next month. With Matthew Wade struggling with form, Nevill is the most favorite candidate to book the Ashes berth.

Recently, former cricketer Ian Healy also weighted this opinion when he tipped Peter Nevill to be a better wicketkeeper than Wade. Speaking about the same in a conversation with News Corp, Nevill mentioned that he has benefited a great deal after talking to Ian Healy. He noted that they had discussions about his batting and wicketkeeping.

“Most of it is just chatting with him. Having him run an eye over everything and doing drills with him and seeing if there’s anything he sees there. There was nothing technically, it was just more having a good chat about what the keys were. The things he focused on when he was wicketkeeping and just chatting through the intricacies of that. It was very beneficial,” quoted Peter Nevill.

“He’s someone who is generous with their time. He always says he’s only ever a phone call away and if I want to talk to him about anything or send him any footage or anything like that he’s always more than willing to accommodate. So I’m very lucky with that,” he added.

On adjustments made

Peter Nevill last played for Australia during the South Africa tour last year. After being dropped from the national setup, he went back to the domestic cricket and batted his skins out for New South Wales. With three tons to his name in domestic circuit, Nevill surely has served his case for the Ashes 2017-18. He noted that he worked on the technicalities of his game.

“There were some minor adjustments I made after getting dropped. I did quite a bit of work with [NSW Assistant] Dom Thornely and he had a couple of little points that really worked wonders for me throughout the back half of the year. There were two subtle things, one with my back lift, and one with my head. I certainly got a lot of benefit out of that and my performances for the second half of the year probably reflected that,” conceded the 31-year old.
