Pakistan international players Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shehzad have been reprimanded and fined for their on-field behavior during the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Riaz who represents Peshawar Zalmi and Shehzad who opens the innings for Quetta Gladiators got involved in a heated exchange last night during the 5th over of the match. The two not only exchanged words but also pushed each other in the heat of the moment.

The incident happened in the 5th over of the match when Shehzad hit Riaz for a huge six on the very first ball of his over. Riaz who is known for being fiery and intimidating was furious and came back with a splendid delivery to clean up Shehzad.

The pacer then gave the batsman an angry send-off to which he retaliated and showed him his bat which seemed his attempt to rather hit him. Wahab Riaz didn’t back off and pushed Shehzad and it required intervention from other players to settle the matter before it turned uglier.

The match referee came into action and has fined both the players. A PSL press release stated: “Riaz has been fined 40 percent of his match fee while Shehzad 30 percent after both violated the clause 2.2.4 of the code of conduct for being involved in an inappropriate physical contact during the match.”

A PCB official also reacting to the incident was quoted by PTI saying, “The players have been asked to behave as such incidents hampers the image of Pakistan cricket as millions are watching the PSL around the globe,”

“Physical contact is a serious offence and we don’t take it lightly, this time the players have just been cautioned privately since they were fined by the match referee,” the official added.
