While the third season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) kickstarted last night, it was Pakistani speedster Wahab Riaz who hogged all the limelight with his inch-perfect horseshoe moustache. Riaz featured for the defending champions Peshawar Zalmi as they took on the Multan Sultans in the curtain raiser. However, his side ended up succumbing to a devastating seven-wicket defeat.

The cricket frenzy Twitterati soon started buzzing with Riaz’s new moustache style after he was spotted at the Dubai International Stadium. In an interview, the left-arm pacer revealed the secret behind the new style he was sporting. Smiling shyly, Riaz said that this was his way of showing his new “motivation” to everyone.

When quizzed if renowned Australian seamer Mitchell Johnson was the motivation behind his change of style, the 32-year-old responded in affirmative. He was quoted by Geo.tv as saying, “See, it’s good to be inspired by anyone for anything that benefits you. And, if I’m inspired by Mitchell, then I’d love to say thank you to him.”

Riaz further added, “I had planned this beforehand, and obviously, I did this makeover right before I was due to arrive for the match … changed my facial hair. I was quite scared and nervous when I came to the stadium because I knew people would take and share pictures [of my new style].”

Tournament Details

Multan Sultans started their campaign in style after defeating defending champions Peshawar Zalmi, courtesy a scintillating knock of 57 from Kumara Sangakkara which comprised three boundaries and two sixes.

In the second fixture of the tournament, Karachi Kings played the two-time finalists Quetta Gladiators, in what promised to be a high-octane clash. However, it was a disappointing start for the Sarfaraz Ahmed led squad as the Gladiators conceded to a 19 runs defeat.
