The first day of the third and final Test between Pakistan and West Indies was affected by intermittent rain on the day. The farewell Test for the two stalwarts of Pakistan cricket created a lot of buzz prior to the start of the day. Also, the fact that the series stood leveled at 1-1 before this game only made the deciding Test a very interesting one in the context of the series. On day 1 of the final Test, it was Azhar Ali who called the shots for the visitors.

Azhar Ali hit an unbeaten fifty to set the tone for the Pakistani side as they finished with 169/2 by the end of the day’s play. Only 69 overs were bowled on the day. While the talks about the game was all encircled around the guard of honor Younis Khan received when he came to the batting crease, there was a funny moment that kept the players and fans grappled on the day.

The action perspired in the second last over of the day two when Azhar Ali faced Jason Holder. Ali tried to do a ‘Jonathan Trott’ when he saw Jason Holder completely losing his control on the ball. It was the second ball of the over when Holder ran in hard but ended up losing total control on the ball.

The ball bounced multiple times as it went across the pitch. Azhar Ali had every opportunity to hit the ball. He went in the direction of the ball as if he would hit the ball hard to earn easy four runs. However, at the very last moment, he opted not to and let the ball go to the wicket-keeper. The umpire ruled it as a dead ball.

The ball certainly reminded of the most bizarre delivery bowled by Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja. During a fixture of England’s tour to India in 2012, Jadeja had missed total control on the ball in one of the Test matches. The batsman, Jonathan Trott, pounced hard on it and hit it through the mid wicket region to earn four runs. In the most recent 2016 England tour to India, Jadeja bowled a similar delivery to Jonny Bairstow as well.
