Ben Cutting hit the longest six of the season against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the big finals at the Chinnaswamy stadium at Bengaluru. The Sunrisers Hyderabad were facing a major crisis when they lost the wickets of Yuvraj Singh, Naman Ojha and Bipul Sharma in quick succession. It was the Australian all-rounder who came in handy for the Sunrisers on the day when it mattered.

He hit a quickfire 39 off 15 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes in his innings that propelled the Sunrisers Hyderabad total to 208 in their stipulated 20 overs. It was the 19th over of the innings when Shane Watson was given the ball to deliver the goods for RCB and contain the batsmen. However, Ben Cutting had some other plans.

Watson bowled a waist high full toss, and Cutting quickly swiveled a little to club the full toss over the square boundary. Such was the timing on the ball that it went over the roof and landed out of the stadium. The six distance was measured as 117m and it was the longest six of the season.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore fell short of the target by just 8 runs and Sunrisers Hyderabad were crowned the new IPL champions. Ben Cutting was adjudged the Man of the Match for his efforts. Cutting was not only effective with the bat, but he later chipped in with a couple of wickets too and finished with figures of 2/35 in his 4 overs.

The Australian pacer has been in the news in the limited opportunities that he got in the tournament. He had earlier amazed everyone with a brilliant save on the boundary in the previous match against the Gujarat Lions. The effort could rightly be termed as the save of the tournament.
