There were a number of reasons that led to the downfall of the Indian cricket team in the first test match at Pune. One of those reasons was the poor effort in the field by the Indian players which contributed to an overall dull performance by India.

At the start of the Australian innings in the second Test match in Bengaluru India once again repeated the poor show on the field when Ajinkya Rahane dropped David Warner on day one. It was a difficult catch to pull off but India needs to take the chances coming their way to level the Border-Gavaskar series.

But there was some brilliance displayed in the field by Virat Kohli’s men on day two of the 2nd Test match at the M Chinnaswamy stadium when Ravindra Jadeja got rid of Peter Handscomb. The right-hander played the ball on the leg side a little away from where Ravichandran Ashwin was standing. The off-spinner was quick to react to the situation as he dived towards his right to catch the ball. But the catch was not completed at the first attempt as the ball bounced out of Ashwin’s hand and hit his forearm only to get back again into his palms. Handscomb had to make his long walk back to the pavilion courtesy to the brilliant effort in the field by Ravichandran Ashwin.

However, Ashwin has not been particularly impressive with the ball as he has only one wicket to his name till now. He cleaned up David Warner who was looking settled at the crease at the score of 33. It is Ravindra Jadeja who has bagged three Australian wickets so far in the innings and is looking the most threatening of the Indian bowlers. India definitely need more such efforts in the field to get them at par in the series.
