Watch: Ravindra Jadeja breaches Hashim Amla’s defence
Celebrations burst out as soon Hashim Amla’s bails got disturbed. The Ravindra Jadeja ball drifted into the right-hander from the middle-leg line. Amla pushed forward to defend on the middle stump line but was not to the pitch of the delivery. This gave it time to grip and spin off the pitch. It turned and bounced past the outside edge of Amla’s bat and hit the top of off-stump.
The slow-mo fight back of the South African skipper was over. He made only 25 runs off 244 deliveries (that’s close to 41 overs) at a strike rate of 10.24. The 27 runs partnership off 42.1 overs between the Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers was finally broken.

Ravindra Jadeja went off on a celebratory run with his hands raised and the team followed. Virat Kohli must have felt relived as the wait was finally over. Amla had become a trauma for the Indian bowlers who batted throughout the last two sessions of day four. The Kotla crowd also erupted after watching Amla depart. The scorecard, which read 76/3 after 84.5 overs after his departure, shows the reason behind the uncontrolled emotion in the stadium. South Africa may have drawn little criticism from pundits for this approach towards the chase, but they have won the hearts of cricket fans all over the globe.
Hashim Amla showed patience, resilience and application of mind in his snail-paced innings. His defiance has now made a draw look possible for South Africa. Amla has been the centre of this blockathon. Firstly, he and Temba Bavuma stood in the middle with their feet buried in the ground. Later, he continued defending everything on his way with AB de Villiers.
