Rohit Sharma, who made a brilliant 124 in the 2nd ODI at Brisbane against the home side Australia, was one again the star performer for India. His man-of-the-match performance though couldn’t prevent his team from losing the match. In his past five innings against the Aussies, Rohit has scored 209, 138, 34, 171* and now 124. He continued his form with a magnificent display of attacking batting at the Gabba in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
His dismissal, though, was under unfortunate circumstances. Ajinkya Rahane’s straight drive off a slower delivery back at the bowler James Faulkner brought about Rohit’s downfall. The bowler, who got a bit of his hand on it, deflected the ball onto the stump to end a splendid knock from the elegant Mumbaikar. It was a sad way to go, but that is the kind of bad luck a batsman has to live with.

This seemed the only possible way to dismiss the batsman who was looking in an ominous mood yet again. Rohit struck 11 fours and only two came in front of the wicket, although he also cleared the boundary three times with ease. His century came up from his 112th delivery – as in Perth, it came in the 37th over of the innings – and India looked well set with 10 overs to go, at 2 for 233.
Australia needed a stroke of luck to get back in the match and they got it courtesy his wicket. India’s last ten overs had brought just 75 runs for the loss of six wickets. It was a period that arguably lost the visitors the match after their strong start.
