The 48th game of the Women’s Big Bash League was a highly intense one. The Adelaide Strikers Women met the Hobart Hurricanes Women for this encounter. After being put into bat first, the Strikers put a massive total on the board. Steered by an unbeaten 99 from Sophie Devine and a 63 from Tahlia McGrath helped them get to 189/5 in 20 overs.

Sophie Devine tried extremely hard to get to her century but fell one run short. The Kiwi batter was batting on 77 after the completion of the 19th over. She scored 22 runs all alone in the last over. But, she couldn’t get a boundary on either of the last two balls of the innings and was thus left stranded on 99.

The Adelaide Strikers had a good start in the chase. Even though they lost three of their top four batsmen cheaply, they had Smriti Mandhana at one end who looked good. The left-hander scored a quickfire 52 off 25 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Also, Georgia Redmayne was great down the order and scored an unbeaten 54.

Only eight runs were to be scored in the last over to win the game. The Strikers still had six wickets left and looked to be the favorites to go past the winning line. However, they lost two wickets off the first two balls of the over and ultimately only managed to get seven runs. The game ended in a draw and the result had to be decided by a super over.

Sophie Devine knows only one way of scoring runs

In the super over, Smriti provided a good start by hitting a six off the first ball. However, the next five balls weren’t as effective and only six runs were scored. Chasing 13 in one over, Devine started off with two sixes followed by a four to seal the game. Overall, she scored 115 runs in the match. Yet, there isn’t a century credited to her name as she failed to do the same in the stipulated 20 overs.
