Sunil Chhetri has been an inspiration for an entire generation of young footballers in the country. Since his debut in 2005, the forward, who is now India’s captain, has been the most celebrated Indian footballers. He has played over 100 international matches and has more goals at the highest level than Lionel Messi as well.

On Friday, the footballer, while responding to a fan, expressed to feature for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL team he would like play for. Interestingly, the official Twitter handle of RCB responded to him as well welcoming him in style

It all started with a fan posting a question during the Q&A session on Twitter conducted by the Indian captain. In the wake of coronavirus spread, Sunil Chhetri invited his social media fans to ask him whatever they would like to. He tweeted, “Alright then guys, take a little break from your WFH routines and let’s make the most of this social distancing with a Q&A session. Keep the questions fun and I’ll try to answer as many as I can. Fire away!”

To this, a fan replied back and enquired, “If you get a chance to play cricket in which IPL franchise would you like to play? #AskChetri @chetrisunil11.”

Upon being asked which IPL team he would like to join, the 35-year-old gave a direct answer. The forward answered that he would like to join Royal Challengers Bangalore as he is from the city. The footballer has been living in the city with his wife. Interestingly, he represents FC Bengaluru in the Indian Super League (ISL) as well. In the 2020 season of the league, Chhetri scored nine goals in 17 matches. He helped his side reach the semi-finals.

“We’re ready when you are,” RCB says to Sunil Chhetri

After the Indian skipper posted the tweet, Royal Challengers Bangalore took upon themselves to welcome Sunil Chhetri. The franchise made a little video in which a jersey of RCB with the name of Chhetri can be seen. The jersey also sports the actual jersey number of the Indian captain, 11. The caption on the post was “We’re ready when you are @chetrisunil11!”

Sunil Chhetri is a fan of cricket as well. He shares a good bond with the Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. During the IPL 2019, the two had in fact met as well. The incident took place when Sunil Chhetri attended one of the practice session of RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The two were seen chatting while Kohli introduced his teammates to Chhetri.
