Days after former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer raised eyebrows with his stinging assessment of the current selection panel, Yuvraj Singh has also slammed the MSK Prasad-led national selection panel. The former India all-rounder, who retired from the game this year, said India need better selectors as the current committee’s “thinking in terms of modern-day cricket” is not up to the mark.
Last week, Engineer had launched a scathing attack at the selectors, saying that the current panel is a ‘Mickey Mouse panel’. Not only that, but the legendary wicketkeeper had also sensationally said that he had seen one of the selectors serving tea to Anushka Sharma during the World Cup in England. And while Yuvraj was not so scathing with his comments, he made it clear that he is not a big fan of the current selectors.
“We do need better selectors, for sure. Selectors’ job is not easy. Whenever they select 15 players, there will be talks that what will happen to the other 15. It’s a difficult job but their thinking in terms of modern-day cricket is not up to the mark. It’s my opinion,” Yuvraj Singh said as quoted by Gulf News.
“I am always in favour of protecting the players and being positive about them. By talking negative about your players and team doesn’t show you in true light. The character only shows when things are going wrong and you motivate the players. In bad times, everyone talks bad. We definitely need better selectors,” he added.
This is not the first time, Yuvraj Singh has lashed out at the selectors. Earlier, he had claimed that the selectors did not pick him even though he cleared the yo-yo test after being asked to do so. Yuvraj was instead offered a farewell game which he turned down. He last played for India in 2017 and retired in June this year.
Yuvraj Singh on Shivam Dube
The latest entrant into the Indian team, Shivam Dube is drawing comparisons with the legendary Yuvraj because of his shot-making. But while the fans are continuously drawing the comparisons, Yuvraj himself said that it is too early for such comparisons. He also said that Dube should not be compared with him and should make his own name.
