Team India has hit the purple patch across the three formats of the game in the recent times. A lot of credit for this has to be credited to the new found spin twins of the team – Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Ever since late 2017, the two spinners have been preferred over the seasoned veterans when it comes to the white ball cricket.
They had an excellent run in South Africa in 2018, and now, they are dictating terms in New Zealand as well. In the first ODI against New Zealand, the spin duo accounted for six wickets as the Kiwis bundled out for a paltry total. India won the game comfortably to take a 1-0 lead in the series. After the match, Kuldeep and Chahal were seen in a fun segment video posted by the BCCI.
In the video, Kuldeep Yadav was heard crediting his success to Chahal. He remarked that he feels that something is missing whenever Chahal is not bowling in tandem with him. He cited that the two players share great chemistry and they read the game well.
“When you don’t play, I miss a lot of aspects. We understand each other’s bowling and also the track. It’s not always that we are bowling in tandem. There are times when you bowl earlier and I come in later, but we talk a lot about how the pitch is behaving and how the batsman is playing,” Kuldeep Yadav quoted.
“We (he and Chahal) also use same variations but it confuses the batsman (who is thinking otherwise). We got a lot of wickets in South Africa, grabbed a few in India and now we are getting a lot in New Zealand,” he added further.
Key to success?
Commenting specifically on what the plan was, in the first game against New Zealand, Kuldeep Yadav remarked that it was all about bowling in the right areas since the pitch was good to bat on. Also, he stressed on the fact that the variations had to put in to ensure that the batsman does not settle down.
“It was a batting wicket with not much turn on offer. The ball was skidding a bit, and it was hitting the bat well. So we had to bowl good areas along with using variations. When you use a certain kind of variation then it becomes important to pitch it in right areas which makes it effective. Both me and you did it well,” conceded the chinaman.
