The 40th week of 2017 unfolded some exciting action in the Test series between Pakistan-Sri Lanka and South Africa-Bangladesh and also the limited-overs encounter between India-Australia. The domestic tournaments all over the world also caught the attention of fans during the week.
Here we look at the major records and stats created during the 40th week of 2017.
1 – Rangana Herath became the first left-arm spinner to take 400 wickets in Test cricket in the 1st Test against Pakistan. He is the 14th player overall and the 2nd Sri Lankan after Muttiah Muralitharan to take 400 Test wickets.
1 – South Africa’s innings in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh is the first instance in South Africa where four players scored centuries in the same innings in a Test match. Overall, this was only the 5th such instance in South African FC cricket. Last of the previous four instances was recorded last month at Bloemfontein only when four Knights’ batsmen scored hundreds in their 1st innings against Cape Cobras.
1 – Yasir Shah became the first spinner in Test history to take 5-wicket hauls in five consecutive Test matches. Three other bowlers (pacers) have taken 5-wicket hauls in six and more consecutive Test matches. He picked up a 5-wicket haul in the first innings of Sri Lanka’s innings in the 2nd Test.
3 – Prashant Chopra became only the third player in first-class cricket to complete a triple century on their birthday. Chopra, who was born on October 7th, 1992, turned 25 on Saturday. He scored a record 271 runs on the opening day of the Himachal Pradesh-Punjab game.
6 – Number of batsmen who got out ‘bowled’ during Australian innings in 1st India-Australia T20I. These are the joint most number of batsmen being dismissed ‘bowled’ in a T20I inning.
7/19 – Mujeeb Zadran’s bowling figures of 7/19 for Afghanistan U19s against Bangladesh U19s in the 4th ODI game are the joint 2nd best bowling figures in Youth ODI cricket. Irfan Pathan picked up 9/16 in 2003 while Ajantha Mendis also had figures of 7/19 in 2002.
30 – Number of sixes Rohit has hit in International cricket in 2017. He is now the first player to hit 30 and more sixes in five consecutive calendar years. Rohit’s six in the 1st T20I against Australia was his 30th in 2017.
42 – Innings Rohit Sharma needed to complete 2000 ODI runs in India. He became the fastest to complete 2000 ODI runs in India by breaking Sourav Ganguly’s (45) record during the 5th ODI.
83 – Rohit Sharma completed 4000 ODI runs as an opener in 83 innings during the 5th ODI. He is the 2nd fastest to the milestone after Hashim Amla, who needed 79 innings. Rohit also became the 3rd quickest among Indians to complete 6000 ODI runs.
136 – The target of 136 runs in the 1st Test is the lowest Sri Lanka have defended successfully in Test cricket and also the lowest Pakistan have failed to chase. Previously, the had failed to chase 146 against South Africa in 1997 while Sri Lanka defended 168 against Pakistan in 2009.
247 – Mehidy Hasan Miraz conceded 247 runs in the 1st Test match against South Africa, which is the 3rd most by any player in a Test without taking a wicket. Imran Tahir conceded 260 against Australia at Adelaide in 2012 while Khan Mohammad of Pakistan conceded 259 against Windies in 1958 at Kingston.
