West Indies fixtures in ICC World Cup 2015: The Caribbeans are the dark horses of the tournament. Recently pulling out from the India series, the Caribbeans are now touring the Proteas and the series will be their last ideal preparation for the mega event to be held Down Under in less than 60 days. Let us look at the fixtures of the Caribbean and discuss their progress to the further rounds of the tournament.
1. 5th Match: Ireland vs West Indies (Saxton Oval, Nelson) on February 16, 2015
West Indies will kick-start their campaign against the associates, Ireland who are capable of pulling big upsets in the tournament. Given the ODI rankings of the West Indies cricket team and the performance of the Irish team, it will be a neck breaking match for both the sides.
2. 10th Match: Pakistan vs West Indies (Hagley Oval, Christchurch) on February 21, 2015
5 days and 5 matches later into the tournament, West Indies will be facing the in-form Pakistan at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The last time when both the teams met in 50 overs World Cup stage, it was not a pleasant memory for the West Indies side, as they crashed to a paltry total. However with big hitters in the side, it should not be a worry for the West Indies side to turn the heat on the Pakistani bowling.
3. 15th Match: West Indies vs Zimbabwe (Manuka Oval, Canberra) on February 24, 2015
With yet another gap of 5 days, the West Indies take the flight to the Australian capital, Canberra where they will be taking on the lowest ranked full member, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is probably considered the weakest full member side in the tournament and provided the condition of their cricket within the country, they are even weaker than some associates. So it would not be difficult for West Indies to go all-out-attack on them.
4. 19th Match: South Africa vs West Indies (Sydney Cricket Ground) on February 27, 2015
The Caribbeans then face the inform and the pre-tournament favourites, South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground after a gap of 3 days. With big hitters in both the sides, it will be up for the bowlers of both the teams to pull up their socks and attack as the team who will bowl better will win this match.
5. 28th Match: India vs West Indies (WACA, Perth) on March 6, 2015
9 matches and a week later, the West Indies face bitter rivals India, after a bitter tour to the country, which they abandoned midway after 4 matches. It will be a tough match for West Indies, as they will be facing a foul-mouthed Indian team who will be out there to prove a point.
6. 41st Match: United Arab Emirates vs West Indies (McLean Park, Napier) on March 15, 2015
Hoping to finish their group campaign on a high, West Indies will move to New Zealand once again to face the qualifiers, United Arab Emirates. It will be far by the easiest match for them.
