Although the second Test between the West Indies and India concluded in a draw, there were a few standout performances from the Indians. KL Rahul completed yet another ton, with all his centuries coming in overseas conditions. Ajinkya Rahane showed true class and character as well as a perfect combination of grit to pick yet another five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Ishant Sharma and the bowlers toiled away in spite of not having much to show for their efforts. That said, we take a quick look at the player ratings for the Indian players in the second Test.

KL Rahul – 8/10:

A ‘forced change’ as Virat Kohli stated, KL Rahul seemed as though he had spent the last ten years with the Indian side. He smashed a wonderful 158 and narrowly missed out on his first Test double ton.

Shikhar Dhawan – 5/10:

Shikhar Dhawan didn’t make much of an impact whilst batting as he could manage just the 27 runs in the two odd hours that he batted. The southpaw, however, looked solid for his knock and will be an important piece of the puzzle as the Indians will aim to go in for the kill in the following Test.

Cheteshwar Pujara – 6.5/10

Pujara was on the brunt of heavy criticisms following his slow knock. However, despite his knock, Pujara looked solid during his stay in the middle by scoring 46 runs in shortly under four hours.

Virat Kohli – 6/10

Kohli was at his aggressive best as he went on to score a brisk 44 runs. However, as they say, Kohli is known to be dismissed in perhaps the most unbelievable fashions as he became a victim of Roston Chase. As a skipper, once again, the aggression showed as he almost claimed yet another Test match victory under his belt.

Ajinkya Rahane – 7/10

The Indian vice-captain made a name for himself as he smashed a wonderful century against a decent and pacey West Indies bowling attack. Moreover, the fact that Rahane managed to remain unbeaten on 108 as the Indians went on to claim a massive first-innings lead.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 7/10

Ravi Ashwin didn’t quite make the impact he would have wanted to with the bat when he was dismissed after having scored just three runs. However, he went on to take yet another five-wicket haul as the Windies were bundled out for a paltry 196 in the first innings. He could only claim one wicket in the second inning since the Windies batsmen were in counter-attack mode.

Wriddhiman Saha – 5.5/10

Wriddhiman Saha smashed a fluid 47 in the first innings, something that was commended as a gutsy effort from a fine player. He was also good behind the wickets for most part of the game.

Amit Mishra – 5/10

Perhaps the unluckiest of the Indian bowlers was Amit Mishra. Being tasked with his skipper to pick wickets, Mishra simply could not get the wickets that he would have wanted to in spite of bowling his heart out.

Mohammad Shami – 7/10

Making his comeback to Test cricket, Mohammad Shami made headlines once again with some pacey and hostile bowling, something that he has often shown. The fire was burning brightly as Shami was at his best, giving the Indian spinners good openings to take wickets.

Ishant Sharma – 6.5/10

Dubbed as the workhorse of the Indian bowling unit, Ishant Sharma impressed once again with the ball. Having been heavily involved in picking up the first few wickets, there is certainly a lot more to come off the 27-year old pacer in the series.

Umesh Yadav – 5.5/10

Unlike his other bowling counterparts, Umesh Yadav certainly did not have the impact that he would have liked as he went wicket-less in long spells.
