The West Indies will be back to wearing the whites when they take on Sri Lanka in a short two-match Test series at home starting from 21st March 2021. This will be the first Test series at home for the West Indies since August 2019.

The hosts have experienced mixed fortunes in their last 8 Test matches. While they have won 4, they have also lost 4 matches. In fact, we have another stunning fact. In the last 20 Test matches that the West Indian side has played, there has not been a single draw.

The West Indies have started their 2021 home season in riveting fashion. While they beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in the T20I series, they have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. And needless to say, they will be looking to continue their good run of form when they wear the whites against the Sri Lankan side. On the other hand, Sri Lanka has lost the last four Test matches it has played and will be looking for a turnaround in fortunes.

Delving deep into West Indies’ squad for the first Test

And now, the West Indian side has announced the squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka. Jason Holder will no longer be the skipper as opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite has been given the captaincy duties for the longest format of the game.

Also, Jermaine Blackwood has been appointed as the vice-captain of the side. While Darren Bravo, John Campbell, and Nkrumah Bonner are the specialist batsmen in the West Indian setup, the likes of Jason Holder, Rakeem Cornwall, and Kyle Mayers are potent all-rounders as well.

The West Indian side also has a strong four-pronged pace attack in its arsenal for the first Test. Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Alzaari Joseph, and Kyle Mayers will form the pace attack for the first rubber. The specialist spinner in the squad is left-arm orthodox bowler Jomel Warrican.

The first Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from 21st March 2021. You can see the squad that the West Indies side has named for the first Test against Sri Lanka below.
