Defying the odds and challenges, the Italy football team defeated England in the final and lifted the Euro 2020 title. With the summit clash taking place at the Wembley Stadium in London, many backed the Three Lions to thrive in home conditions. Moreover, the Harry Kane-led was on a roll in the competition. However, Italy put up a phenomenal show in the final game and lifted the prestigious trophy. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also hailed the Azzurri for their hard-fought victory.

Notably, Italy didn’t make a delightful start to the match with Luke Shaw opening the scoring for England just in the second minute. However, the early blow didn’t dent Italy’s confidence as they kept England on the heels in the remaining game. Leonardo Bonucci found the net in the 67th minute, equaling the scores. The game then advanced to the penalty shootout as the scoreline remained the same even after extra time.

Italy proved to be a tad better in this stage as they won the contest 3-2 on penalties. With the game going right down to the entire, Tendulkar enjoyed a gala time. Taking to Twitter, the Master Blaster congratulated Italy on becoming European champions. He even lauded England for reaching the summit clash and putting up a great fight in the important game.

“Congratulations to @azzurri on the hard-fought victory to become the #EURO2020 Champions! And well-done @England for reaching the finals & keeping the game alive until the very end. What a sport-packed and refreshing weekend this has been!” Tendulkar tweeted.

Meanwhile, the penalty shootout wasn’t any less exciting. England were let down by Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford as the trio failed to find the nets. On the other hand, Federico Bernardeschi and Leonardo Bonucci’s successful hits gave Italy a 2-0 lead after the first three strikes.

However, the spice was added when Harry Maguire opened England’s scoring in the fourth strike while Andrea Belotti couldn’t goal for Italy. Nevertheless, Domenico Berardi was successful in the final strike and this sealed Italy’s triumph.  The Azzurri’s stellar show enthralled many football fans worldwide including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
