Australia bounced back in style after a hammering in the five-match T20I series against West Indies and now leads the three-match ODI series 1-0. It was a perfect bowling display by the hosts with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood leading the charge with five and three wickets respectively. Stand-in-captain Alex Carey got a perfect start to his captaincy career and will look to continue with the same momentum when the teams lock horns in the second ODI on Friday (23 July).

The wicketkeeper-batter also was the team’s highest scorer in the first ODI scoring 67 runs and helped Australia post a competitive score on board. The Men in Yellow will look to keep the winning formula going, albeit expecting more contributions from their top-order batters more.

For the hosts, the batting came apart quickly and they were reduced to 27 for six at one stage. Their experienced batters Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, and Darren Bravo struggled and that led to pressure for their lower middle-order batters to deliver. Only skipper Kieron Pollard offered a semblance of a fight and helped the hosts reach at least 100 runs.

Playing combination for WI vs AUS

West Indies

West Indies will stick to the same playing XI and won’t possibly make changes after just a small blip in the performance in the first ODI. Hayden Walsh was sensational last match with five wickets and this time too, he will look to continue his rich vein of form.

Predicted XI

Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Darren Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard (C), Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Alzarri Joseph, Hayden Walsh, Akeal Hosein, Sheldon Cottrell

Bench: Jason Mohammed, Darren Bravo/Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Anderson Phillip

Australia

Australia will hope for a better performance from their top-order batters, as Matthew Wade, Mitchell Marsh, and Moises Henquries struggled to get going. If the trio clicks, expect a big score from Australia. The visitors are likely going to make any changes to their line-up.

Predicted XI

Josh Philippe, Ashton Turner/Ben McDermott, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade, Moises Henriques, Alex Carey (C and WK), Ashton Agar/Daniel Christian, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Wes Agar, Adam Zampa
