England Test skipper Joe Root is in a jaw-dropping form in 2021. The batsman registered two massive scores of 228 and 186 runs in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Root is continuing his splendid form with the willow in the four-match Test series against India too as in the ongoing first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium, he scored a scintillating century in the first innings.

What makes the innings more special is that Root is playing in his 100th Test match for England. Harsh Goenka, who is the current chairman of RPG Group conglomerate, lauded the England skipper for his stunning century in his 100th game in the purest format of the game. However, via his tweet, Harsh also raised questions on why Root hasn’t been picked by any IPL franchise.

The businessman revealed that once Joe Root had asked him about what he should do for the IPL franchises to consider him for the T20 Championship. The Test skipper will probably go down as one of the best Test batsman England have ever produced. However, Root is yet to make his debut in the Indian league.

Harsh Goenka reveals his conversation with Joe Root

One of the main reasons behind the same is the batman’s poor records in the shortest format of the game for England. The English Test captain has not played a T20 international since May 2019. In 32 T20Is, Root has amassed 893 runs at a strike rate of 126.3 and averages 35.7. He had entered the IPL auction in 2018 for the first time but went unsold.

Harsh Goenka tweeted, “100 in his 100th test match, third in a row- what a masterful innings! #JoeRoot. Yet, when he met me he was asking me why no teams are choosing him for IPL and what does he need to do more!”

The highly-anticipated first Test between India and England commenced with Joe Root winning the toss and electing to bat first. The England batsmen made the most out of the batting-friendly pitch of Chennai as they launched an assault on the opposition bowlers. At the stumps at Day 1, England had managed to post a massive total of 263 runs at a loss of three wickets with Root playing at 128 runs.
