The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is up and running in style. Some of the best cricket is being played and it seems that this season will be closest one in terms of competition. While Sharjah has witnessed high-scoring encounters, even Dubai is turning out to be the best venue for batsmen to plunder runs. Already, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have scored centuries.

Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Ishan Kishan seemed set to become the third centurion of the season. But in search of six in the final over, he was caught in the deep and got out on 99, only one run short of the three-figure score. It was unfortunate for him to not get to his first IPL century ever after getting so close.

However, a batsman getting out on 99 is also a rare occasion and Kishan became only the third player to do so in the history of the cash-rich league.

Who are the other two cricketers to get out on 99 in IPL?

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli was the first ever cricketer to be dismissed on 99 in the IPL ever. It happened way back in the 2013 season during the game between RCB and Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals). Going into the final over of the innings, Kohli was on 76 and he smacked two sixes and as many fours to reach on 98.

However, in a bid to take a couple of the last ball of the innings, Kohli got unfortunately run-out on 99 to become the first ever cricketer to do so. Prithvi Shaw was added to rare list last year while playing for the Delhi franchise against the KKR. Chasing 186, the DC opener was set to get the team over the line in the final over along with his century.

But Lockie Ferguson got the better of him on 99 and the game eventually went to the Super Over where DC emerged victorious eventually. Suresh Raina and Chris Gayle also ended their innings on 99 before but they remained unbeaten and couldn’t get to the three-figure mark unfortunately.
