Cricket fans are occupied with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction being underway. The two-day bidding event has seen many players going big under the hammer. Among those was Tilak Varma, who bagged INR 1.7 crore from five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Varma’s name popped up in the uncapped players category and many sides went after him. MI had to beat the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to bag his services. Notably, Varma earned 8.5 times more money than his base price as his bidding started at INR 20 lakh. He now has the onus to make this oppurtunity count.

4. The left-handed batter played six games in the competition and scored 86 runs at an average of 28.66.

5. Playing for his state team Hyderabad, Varma made his First-Class debut against Andhra Pradesh in 2018.

6. His List-A and T20 debut was recorded in 2019.

7. Varma was on a roll in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 as he scored 180 runs in five games alongside taking four wickets.

8. He was impressive in last season’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy as well, scoring 215 runs in seven games at a strike rate of 147.26.

9. As mentioned above, Mumbai Indians grabbed his services for INR 1.7 crore, 8.5 times more than his base price.
