Preview

The first match between the two teams witnessed some bizarre things. Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dhananjaya announced his return to international cricket by taking a hat-trick in his very second over, but Kieron Pollard smashed him for six sixes in the third over. The batting display from the West Indies was filled with strokes and aggressive batting, but they lost a few more wickets during the run chase than they would have liked.

Sri Lanka would be hoping for a much-improved batting display in the second match, after managing only 131 runs from their 20 overs. Apart from debutant Pathum Nissanka and Niroshan Dickwella, no other batsman could cross 30 runs. The duo who did, couldn’t go on and put up a substantial score on the board for the tourists. Considering the pitch and size of the ground in Antigua, we should expect a little more runs from the Sri Lankan team.

West Indies, on other hand, presented a case of batting on a good pitch with small boundaries. They chased the total in just 13.1 overs but lost six wickets in the process. That is something that the hosts would want to do while looking to seal the series in the second match.

Captaincy picks:

Kieron Pollard

The hard-hitting middle-order batsman showed his class during the first match, hitting Dhananjaya for six sixes in an over. He ended with a score of 38 from 11 balls. If the West Indies captain can maintain his six-hitting form intact for the second match, the hosts wouldn’t have any issue in sealing the series. He would be expected to take charge and give solidity to this batting unit.

Wanindu Hasaranga

As the entire limelight of the first T20I stayed on Akila Dhananjaya, Sri Lanka’s leading spinner, there was another spinner who troubled West Indies extensively during his spell of four overs. He took three wickets by giving just 12 runs. At one point, he was on a hat-trick as well but missed out. His ability to contribute with the bat makes him a good pick for any fantasy team.
