Indian skipper Virat Kohli hands MS Dhoni a memento as the latter takes field for the 300th time in ODI cricket.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the sixth Indian player today to play 300 One Day Internationals for India on Thursday. The veteran was felicitated before the match with a memento from the skipper Virat Kohli. He said that MS Dhoni will always remain our captain on the special occasion.

The wicketkeeper batsman made his debut against Bangladesh in 2004 and since then has been an integral part of the side. He also led India to T20 World Cup in 2007, 50-over World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013. Dhoni joined an elite club of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh who have played more than 300 ODIs.

The Main Story

The official twitter handle of BCCI posted a tweet of Kohli felicitating MS Dhoni for his 300th appearance in ODI. The tweet read, “’You will always remain our Captain,’ says @imVkohli on @msdhoni’s 300th ODI celebration #Dhoni300 https://www.bcci.tv/videos/id/4802.” The tweet also included the video of the skipper giving a memento to his former skipper.

Kohli seemed lost for words and expressed that it was an honor to felicitate him and wished the veteran for his landmark ODI. He said, “ 90 percent of us have started our careers under you. It is an honor to give this memento to him. You will always remain our captain.”

The fourth highest run getter for India is on his way to complete 10,000 runs in ODIs. He also has 99 stumpings to his name and will score a century soon behind the wickets as well. Dhoni has a massive 737 dismissals against his name across all formats which is highest for an Indian wicketkeeper. He has also led India in 331 matches across formats which is, again, a world record. The legend is also looking set to play 2019 Cricket World Cup post which he might call it a day.
