Will wait for the report before taking a call on Mohammed Shami: Ganguly

The controversy has meant that his fate of participation in the tournament hangs in the balance.

Mohammed Shami hasn’t had the best of time lately owing to multiple allegations from his wife, Hasin Jahan. She alleged Shami for charges involving extra-marital affairs, match-fixing scandals, domestic violence, and death threats. Subsequently, his annual contract for the Indian team has been withheld by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

He was listed to play for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, however, the controversy has meant that his fate of participation in the tournament hangs in the balance. Recently. the Committee of Administrators, headed by Vinod Rai, has approached the Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) for to submit a report pertaining to the charges, the deadline of which is seven days.

The awaited ‘report’ for Shami

Recently, Sourav Ganguly, the member of the IPL governing council talked about the much-awaited report. “The Anti-Corruption Unit is investigating the matter and will file a report. We will wait for it before taking a call on Shami’s participation,” Ganguly said. The matter is currently being investigated by the Kolkata Police. Meanwhile, Hasin Jahan has also forwarded a copy of the report to Vinod Rai.

CK Khanna, the acting president also talked about the significance of the report surrounding the case. “Since ACU chief Neeraj Kumar is investigating and has been given a seven-day time frame, any decision will be taken after he submits his report. The final decision will be taken by the CoA,” he mentioned.

Hemant Dua, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Delhi Daredevils also confirmed Shami’s participation provided he isn’t found guilty. “We are hoping that Shami is cleared and will be allowed to play in the league. However, we will have to wait for the BCCI probe to conclude. The BCCI has assured us that the report will be out in a week’s time,” he iterated.
