It was a no-show on the second day due to a rain interruption. The match between England Women and Sri Lanka Women had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. However, action resumed in the Women’s World T20 on the third day. There were two one-sided contests with India Women and Australia Women ending up on the winning side in their respective games.

India, having won both the games they’ve played thus far have made a strong contention for themselves to make it into the semi-finals. Mithali Raj and Alyssa Healy were the star performers on the day as both these batswomen notched up clinical half-centuries.

Here is how things progressed on day-3 of the Women’s World T20:

India Women vs Pakistan Women (Group B) – Match 5

India Women won the toss and put Pakistan into bat first. Pakistan have themselves to blame for the dismal performance in the match. Two out of the top three batswomen were run out putting the team in some serious trouble. The side was down to 30/3 very early in the innings. However, half-centuries from Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar, assisted by some poor fielding from India helped Pakistan finish with 133 runs on the board. Although the team scored 135 runs, two runs were cancelled as the batters ran on the danger area of the pitch.

Furthermore, this helped India get a head start to their innings as they were 10/0 without a ball being bowled after the penalty runs were awarded. So, India had to only score 124 runs in 20 overs and Pakistan did extremely well to take the game to the 19th over. Mithali Raj was back opening the innings and played the role of an anchor with 56 off 47 balls. Little contributions from the other batswomen helped India win the game by 7 wickets.

Brief Scores

PAK-W: 133/7 in 20 overs (Bismah Maroof 53, Nida Dar 52, Poonam Yadav 2/22)

IND-W: 137/3 in 19 overs (Mithali Raj 56, Smriti Mandhana 26, Nida Dar 1/17)

Result: India Women won by 7 wickets.

Australia Women vs Ireland Women (Group B) – Match 6

It was quite easy to predict the winner of this match. Australia Women, who are one of the strongest teams in the tournament, thoroughly dominated the opposition. Ireland elected to bat first after winning the toss but only managed to put on 93 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Kim Garth with 24 runs was the highest run-getter for the side. Elysse Perry accounted for two wickets in four overs and gave away just 12 runs.

The chase was a cakewalk for the Aussies with Alyssa Healy going all guns blazing right at the top. She was unbeaten on 56 off 31 balls and her innings included nine fours and a six. Beth Mooney and Elysse Perry scored 14 and 9 runs respectively as Australia Women cruised to a 9-wicket win with 10.5 overs to spare.

Brief Scores

IRE-W: 93/6 in 20 overs (Kim Garth 24, Shillington 19, Elysse Perry 2/12)

AUS-W: 94/1 in 9.1 overs (Alyssa Healy 56*, Beth Mooney 14, Kim Garth 1/17)

Result: Australia Women won by 9 wickets.
