England’s campaign to regain the Women’s World T20 title with began on Saturday when they take on Sri Lanka in the Group A game. England’s Women’s team won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2009 but failed to win again in four attempts despite making it to the final twice. England will step into the 6th edition of this tournament on the back of some power-packed performances in this format.
However, they lost services of Sarah Taylor and also Katherine Brunt just before their tournament opener. It will be tough for England to fill both the gaps with players, who can play a crucial part especially in this format of the game. But it might not make a difference for them against Sri Lanka who are going through a rough phase. The Lankan Women have lost their last six completed T20I games including one against Thailand. They were defeated by New Zealand and Ireland by big margin during the warm-up games.

As many as three matches during the CPL 2018 produced around 400 runs out of the five matches hosted by the stadium in St Lucia. Other two games turned out to be low scoring ones including a total of 69. The pitch in Guyana on the first day got slower and slower as the day progressed. As the England-Sri Lanka game being the only one played in St Lucia on the second day, it could play as good as it did during the India-New Zealand game.

Power Picks:
England’s Sophie Ecclestone could enjoy a great success in this tournament. The left-arm spinner claimed ten wickets in her last five T20I matches at an average of 13.4 and a strike-rate of 11.4 which witnessed some big totals. Anya Shrubsole is another dangerous bowler in this format as he claimed 74 wickets in 54 T20Is at 13.81. She takes a wicket every 14.8 balls in this format.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
In the absence of Sarah, Natalie Sciver is set to bat at No.3 and will be bowling a fair number of overs. This makes her a direct option as captain. Danielle Wyatt’s consistency at the top in this format is to be considered while selecting multipliers. The duo of Shrubsole and Ecclestone could well clinch the ascendancy if Sri Lanka happen to bat first.
Expert Advice:
Heather Knight, with nine credits, can be brought at cost of an all-rounder or bowler. If the game turns out to be a low-scoring one with the Lankans batting first, Knight might not even get to bat. Jenny Gunn can be picked at own cost as there are games where she doesn’t even bowl an over.
Probable Winners:
England are expected to show their dominance over Sri Lanka and get off to a flyer in the tournament.
