The ICC World Cup 2019 is set to begin from May 30 in England and Wales with five-time World Champs Australia set to defend its title against the favorites like England and India. The tournament has been touted as one of the most competitive one given that it reverts back to the round robin league format of 1992 edition.

With the time nearing for the tournament to start, as per ICC ruling, all the ten teams have announced their 15-man squads for the mega ICC event. While most of the teams announced were as per the expectancy of the fans and experts, some players still missed out on the chance of playing in a prestigious event like the World Cup, which comes once in four years. This led to the ICC picking their own XI of unlucky players who missed out on playing World Cup.

ICC chooses their Unlucky World Cup XI

ICC took to their official Twitter account and announced 11 unlucky players who missed the flight to the UK for the World Cup tournament. Team India was amongst the few teams have two players chosen in the XI with Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu, who was edged on the last minute.

Their arch-rivals Pakistan chose to go without a backup keeper for Sarfraz Ahmed and this makes Mohammad Rizwan, who cracked two centuries against Australia recently, a part of the ICC Unlucky XI.

Kieron Pollard of West Indies, Peter Handscomb of Australia, Niroshan Dickwella of Sri Lanka were some surprise omission from the World Cup squads of their respective countries. One surprise inclusion is that of Jofra Archer of England, who has been picked for the upcoming ODI series against England, but wasn’t named in England’s WC preliminary squad.

ICC’s Unlucky XI: Niroshan Dickwella, Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, Peter Handscomb, Dinesh Chandimal, Kieron Pollard, Mohammad Rizwan, Asif Ali, Jofra Archer, Akila Dananjaya and Mohammad Amir.
