The South African team pocketed a rare win against Australia at the grandest stage in the last group fixture of the 2019 World Cup. Termed as favourites before the start of their championship campaign the Rainbow nation made the list of party latecomers. Their tourney also marked the end of an era as many of their players will not be playing the next edition.

One of them is Jean-Paul Duminy who played his last game for the Proteas in Manchester and after the game, he thanked the cricketing fraternity via his twitter post. The enigmatic left-hander was a talented cricketer from Cape Town who made his international debut way back in 2004. In his initial years, he was known for his elegant stroke-making and it was on show when he made his Test debut against Australia in Perth. Ironically his international expedition also came to a halt against the Kangaroos.

Adios Duminy

Very few batsmen of the African nation has caught the eye of the cricketing circle with their graceful batting. Duminy is right on top of that list with his classy drives and lofted shots. Unfortunately, the left-hander never raised the bar and only played occasional stylish knocks. In order to concentrate on his white-ball skills, he even retired from Test cricket in 2017.

A couple of months ago he even announced his departure from domestic cricket. The Proteas signed off in style and after their win, Duminy showed his gratitude to the South African cricket via his twitter post. In that, he credited his teammates and family for making his cricketing journey a successful one. The message also contained a lovely picture of him in his teenage days along with his current portrait.

In this World Cup, the Faf Du Plessis-led side expected a lot from Duminy because of the absence of AB de Villiers in the middle-order. Like most of the time, Duminy again flattered to deceive as he just scored 70 runs in 5 games. All in all, he finished his ODI career with over 5,000 runs in 196 games including 3 World Cup appearances.
