The ICC World XI and the world champions of the shortest format of the game, Windies, are all set to lock horns in the one-off charity game at the Home of Cricket. The Lord’s is set to lit up with the presence of some of the best players across the world in both the sides as they join hands for a social cause. The funds collected from this game will be used to reconstruct the Stadia in the Caribbean that were damaged by the Hurricanes last year. However, the weather in London will have to be clear for the match to get underway.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi will lead the team after Eoin Morgan pulled out at the last moment due to a fractured finger. Dinesh Karthik is likely to don the wicket-keeping gloves who has hogged all the limelight ever since winning the game for India in the final of the Nidahas Trophy. It will be interesting to see how the team comprising of the stars from most of the top cricketing nations fares.
Carlos Brathwaite is set to captain Windies side that has the likes of Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis at the top of the order. Most of their players were plying their trade in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) and are pretty set in the T20 mode.
Will rain play spoilsport?
According to the Accu Weather, currently, it is cloudy in London with the temperatures hovering around 16 Degree Celsius. There is a thunderstorm expected around 12 PM local time with chances of rain throughout the day. At this point in time, it is expected to be a start-stop affair as there is around 50% chance of the clouds opening up leading up to the game. However, after 6 PM the rain gods could just step aside and allow the match to continue.
Overall verdict: The humidity will also play its part due to the wet weather in London and the game might be a curtailed affair due to the persistent rain.
