Yash Dhull has been outstandingly leading the U19 Indian side from the front in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 in the Caribbean but, mattered when it mattered the most by scoring a match-winning century in the semifinal against Australia at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Wednesday.

Dhull played a captain’s knock to perfection by scoring a run-a-ball 110. With the kind of form that he was in, the skipper was expected to help India get past the 300-run mark with some whirlwind batting performances in the death overs before an unfortunate run out in the 46th over brought his stay at the crease to an abrupt end. While the number four batter could not finish the innings on a high note, he did succeed in taking the Australian bowlers to the cleaners at regular intervals with some terrific shots and one of them stood out from the rest.

Skipper Yash Dhull confidently hits the bowler out of the park

During his 110-run knock that included 10 boundaries and a maximum at a strike rate of exactly 100, Yash Dhull advanced down the wicket by making some room and took the Australian all-rounder Tom Whitney to the cleaners. Whitney had bowled a slightly short-pitched delivery with the purpose of deceiving the batter by tempting him to go for a big shot. Nonetheless, Dhull’s timing had enough power to take the ball to the cleaners. The video of this spectacular shot has also been posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on social media.

Yash Dhull added 204 runs with Shaik Rasheed (94) as the Indian team finished their innings at 290/5. In reply, the bowlers did a fantastic job by chipping in with wickets at regular intervals, and despite middle-order batter Lachlan Shaw’s fighting 51, the former champions could never really stay in the hunt as they were bundled out for just 194. The Boys In Blue sealed a fourth straight U19 World Cup final berth with an emphatic 96-run win and will face England for a record fifth title on Saturday.
